Observance of this trait, led one of my favorite families to coin the term "Grahamism."
A few days ago, I received a birthday wish including a threat to post 'Grahamism' into Wikipedia:
Grahamism (greyuhm-isum)
Though Grahamisms have been around since the dawn of time, they have only recently been defined with such clarity. Most people have experienced this phenomenon in their lives. Some people experience Grahamisms with greater frequency, as is true with the person whose name was used to define this phenomenon. Others never or rarely experience Grahamisms as is true of the person who penned said phenomenon's name. So, what is a Grahmism?
Simply put, a Grahamism is a verbal faux pax. Examples of this are as simple as the inaccurate use of a word and as complex as stating something profoundly obvious or combining ideas that simply do not go together. Some examples of Grahamisms that have been witnessed are the following:
- "I heard visually ..."
- "What time is it?" ... "You mean now?"
- Pronouncing the word Poseidon as "POY-suh-dinn."
- "The fan has a wall mount that you can use to mount it on the wall."
Naming a verbal faux pax as a Grahamism identifies that it is funny, poignant, endearing, and representative of one's love and affection for the errant.
Grahamisms, a gift to the world, but thankfully not Wikipedia!!
(Guesses for which 2 of the 4 examples are ones that I actually have done?)
and yes, I did slightly change the quoted text to make it read a little better, make sense, etc. Just so that no one gets upset.
